Don’t miss this one! MARK YOUR CALENDARS! We are going to beautiful
Reno, Nevada, with the awesome Red Rock Hounds. For the first time ever
for an MFHA Seminar, we are going to give early birds the opportunity to
hunt. The MFHA’s own version of “Annie Oakley,” Master and huntsman Lynn
Lloyd of the Red Rock Hounds, has invited everyone—first come, first
served. You never know what you’ll be chasing next when you ride behind
Lloyd. Traversing the beautiful Nevada landscape is like riding across
the Old West. You may feel more like a cavalry rider worried about
Indians and antelope than a foxhunter who might at any moment chase a
coyote, hare, lion or bear. Coyote is the preference, but they’ve all
been chased.

Red Rock will hunt on Friday, April 18, in the early morning, with a
tailgate after the hunt. There are a limited number of horses available
to rent, and car following will be available. There will be a capping
fee. You must attend the seminar if you wish to go on the hunt. Call Red
Rock Hounds at 775-969-3243 to make arrangements to hunt, lease a horse
or car follow. For Friday arrivals who are not hunting, there will be an
informal get-together that night at the Red Rock club house, and you can
hear about the day’s hunt over drinks and hors d’oeuvres. The cost is
$25 per person, paid at the door. The high desert is spectacular, and
coyotes abound. On Saturday morning, Red Rock will walk out hounds and
there will be a kennel/stable visit. Red Rock has a unique kennel, and
the stable is a must-see.
Room reservations for the Biennial Seminar should be made at the Grand
Sierra Resort in Reno. You make your own, 800-648-5080 and ask for the
special MFHA Foxhounds Seminar rate. We have a super
rate of $119, single or double. (Some great suites are available for
those who want them. Contact the MFHA office for information about
booking a suite.) You must stay at the hotel to attend the seminar or we
will not meet our quota or receive the various discounts for rooms, food
and functions, so please, please help us there. You must also be a
current Subscribing Member to attend.

Of course, there are numerous golf courses, sight-seeing (Virginia City
and Lake Tahoe are not far away) and entertainment available. The
Seminar’s official kick-off will be Saturday night, with a dinner at the
hotel and a hound presentation. Marty Wood, MFH, huntsman, Live Oak
Hounds, and huntsman Charles Montgomery will give a special
presentation. Mr. Wood has judged every hound show in the United States
and Canada and many hound shows in England, including the famous
Peterborough Hound Show. Learn the secrets of showing and what a judge
looks for. Rub elbows with some of the greatest foxhunters in our time
and enjoy the camaraderie of hundreds of your friends.
Remember, this is a fundraiser. The price of the Seminar is $250,
considerably less than our 2006 seminar. The price includes the Saturday
morning hound walk and kennel/stable tour, Saturday night dinner party
at the hotel, the seminar itself, a continental breakfast, snacks,
coffee, soda and a buffet lunch the day of the seminar. If you only
attend the dinner party the cost is $100. The price of attending only
the Seminar is $200, which includes breakfast and lunch. So you save $50
if you sign up for both the dinner party and the Seminar. Sign up soon
as we almost always have to turn people down. You must be Staff or a
current Subscribing Member to attend the seminar. Professional Staff
receive a 25% discount, but they must also be a Subscribing Member.
Since this is for charity, a percentage of the price will be
tax-deductible, and the exact amount of the deduction will be specified
on your receipt. Dinner on Sunday night is not included because many
people will be leaving and/or will want to go out on the town. Hunting
with the Red Rock Hounds on Friday morning is also a separate expense.
The Seminar starts Sunday morning at the Grand Sierra Resort. As always,
this year’s topics will educate and entertain you, no matter what level
of foxhunter you are. Each topic will have a panel of experts.
See you there!
